“PERHAPS THE BIGGEST TRAGEDY OF OUR LIVES IS THAT FREEDOM IS POSSIBLE, YET WE CAN PASS OUR YEARS TRAPPED IN THE SAME OLD PATTERNS…WE MAY WANT TO LOVE OTHER PEOPLE WITHOUT HOLDING BACK, TO FEEL AUTHENTIC, TO BREATHE IN THE BEAUTY AROUND US, TO DANCE AND SING. YET EACH DAY WE LISTEN TO INNER VOICES THAT KEEP OUR LIFE SMALL.”

Dr. Samuel Golden
PSYCHOLOGIST
My name is Dr. Sam Golden. In my practice, I focus on two central components of well-being: present-moment experience and connections with others.
Whether you already have many fulfilling relationships or struggle to let your guard down in authentic vulnerability, my approach is about fostering a non-judgmental connection that supports healing. Through our work, we will help you build an inner home where you can find autonomy and peace.
In therapy, we aim to co-create an experience where you feel connected, purposeful, and self-compassionate. My goal is to establish a therapeutic relationship grounded in safety and trust, while helping you increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of the emotions present in your mind and body. From here, once-painful feelings can become a powerful tool, guiding you to address and ease the suffering associated with life’s various challenges. Together, we will promote your strength, expression, and freedom on your path to healing.
My educational background includes a B.S. in pre-med psychology from Loyola University New Orleans and a Psy.D. from Rutgers University. My training spans various settings, including college counseling centers and inpatient and outpatient facilities in New York, New Jersey, and New Orleans. Before joining the Center for Progressive Psychotherapy, I completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Brooklyn Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where I provided individual, group, and couples therapy. My work at the VA allowed me to support veterans and their families from diverse backgrounds across New York City.
“Doctor Golden was an incredible listener – one of the very rare kinds of people who can consistently tie ideas together in a way that is organic and not excessive. I really felt like my perspective was as important as his was. I definitely appreciate his perspective, guidance, and attention paid to the intricacies of my life!”
“Sam is a kind, generous person. He was very accommodating and understanding.”
