Dr. Adam Cox

Hi, my name is Dr. Adam Cox. I believe therapy is a unique collaborative endeavor tailored to each individual.

My therapeutic approach integrates psychodynamic, humanistic-existential, cognitive-behavioral, and multicultural perspectives. At the heart of our work together is a simple yet profound goal: using our therapeutic relationship and my empathetic engagement to deepen your understanding of yourself. I do not focus on labeling you with a mental illness; instead, I aim to help you navigate the universal challenges of fear, anxiety, attachment, loss, and outdated coping mechanisms that once served you well but may now be hindering you. Whatever issues you face, I am here to provide a steady presence and guide you toward emotional stability.

In our sessions, I offer a non-judgmental, collaborative environment where we can explore your difficulties, understand your emotional responses, and develop strategies for the changes you desire. Therapy is not a one-sided process, but an opportunity for you to recognize and build upon your strengths, improving how you relate to yourself and others. Our success comes from working as a team, engaging in constructive dialogue to uncover and address underlying issues.

My educational journey in psychology began in my late twenties. I earned dual Master’s degrees (M.A. & Ed.M.) in Psychological Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, between 2008 and 2010. I continued to expand my expertise with a Professional Doctorate in Counseling Psychology (DPsych) from City, University of London, focusing on humanistic-existential and psychodynamic therapies from 2016 to 2020. Most recently, I completed a Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioral Therapies at King’s College, London, in 2020-21, further diversifying my therapeutic skills.

My commitment to continuous learning ensures that I am equipped with the latest therapeutic approaches to best serve you.
