Dr. Randy Nolte

PSYCHOLOGIST, FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL TRAINING

Hello. My name is Dr. Randy Nolte. After over a decade in private practice, I established The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy to enhance the reach and quality of care through the mentoring of early-career psychologists.

As Clinical Director, I am deeply involved in overseeing patient care and advancing the professional and clinical development of the team through personalized and group supervision, as well as weekly training sessions. My approach integrates the work of psychodynamic psychologists, such as Freud and Klein, and philosophers like Lacan with modern research findings from the fields of psychology and medicine. I take a holistic approach focusing on understanding the purpose behind each symptom, thought, and behavior. My goal is to empower my clients by uncovering and addressing underlying needs in healthier ways, thereby increasing their control over their lives.

In therapy, I strive to create a trusting, safe environment where all feelings and thoughts can be expressed—particularly those that are difficult to articulate. I believe that every challenge is “figureoutable.” Together, we will work collaboratively to help you voice your concerns and devise new strategies for old problems. I appreciate the diversity of my clients and welcome individuals from all backgrounds and with various challenges, which energizes me and enhances my ability to focus deeply on each person’s needs.

I earned a degree in Psychology (B.A.) from The George Washington University before conducting research on anxiety at The George Washington University Hospital. I earned a Master’s of Counseling Psychology (M.A.) from New York University and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.M.) from The George Washington University in order to work clinically with patients. In order to deepen my work and improve my clinical skills, I went on to complete a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology at The George Washington University’s Professional Psychology program, which was fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

Drawing on 15 years of experience, I continue to learn from each client and continually refine my approach to therapy to offer the highest standard of psychological care.
