A GREAT STORY. SOMETIMES IT’S BOTH.”

Dr. Raya Kumar
PSYCHOLOGIST & POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW
My name is Raya Kumar. I am a Clinical Psychologist and Post-Doctoral Fellow at CPP. I work with adults and couples navigating relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma, and self-esteem. I see therapy as protected time to be curious about yourself, in service of feeling more alive and more yourself.
Together, we will explore your present issues, past experiences, dreams, and inner world to deepen your understanding of yourself and the patterns you find yourself in. I believe this process of uncovering creates the foundation for meaningful change. A collaborative approach is essential to this type of self-exploration, and I use a friendly, interactive style to foster an open environment with room for humor.
I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective and view our connection as an important lens through which we can better understand relational patterns and challenge well-worn ways of being. I also integrate skills and behavioral techniques from dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy, tailored to your needs.
I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and my bachelor’s degree from Tufts University. My clinical training includes providing individual and couples psychotherapy in hospitals, private practices, and community mental health settings, with placements at Montefiore Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian, and Jacobi Medical Center.
