“PERHAPS THE BIGGEST TRAGEDY OF OUR LIVES IS THAT FREEDOM IS POSSIBLE, YET WE CAN PASS OUR YEARS TRAPPED IN THE SAME OLD PATTERNS…WE MAY WANT TO LOVE OTHER PEOPLE WITHOUT HOLDING BACK, TO FEEL AUTHENTIC, TO BREATHE IN THE BEAUTY AROUND US, TO DANCE AND SING. YET EACH DAY WE LISTEN TO INNER VOICES THAT KEEP OUR LIFE SMALL.”

Dr. Sophie Park

PSYCHOLOGIST & POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW

Hi. My name is Dr. SangHee “Sophie” Park. With deep passion and commitment, I aim for a therapeutic journey towards self-discovery and lasting well-being.

My approach to psychotherapy is integrative. I consciously and flexibly choose the best techniques based on the nature of issues you bring in, your unique personal history and the goals we set together. Within a broader relational and humanistic framework, I draw from different approaches, including psychodynamic theories, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance based and mindfulness-based therapy.

I believe strong therapeutic relationships are at the heart of positive change. I also believe that human beings have innate propensity toward growth, wisdom and healing and my role as a therapist is to remove any obstacles that get in the way. In a warm, supportive and collaborative environment, we can together make meaning of your experience, identify unhelpful patterns in your life, problem-solve and build inner and outer resources around you. I work with individuals on various issues, including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, performance at school/work, life transitions, identity and acculturation. Coming from a multicultural background myself, I am especially committed to creating a culturally sensitive environment.

My educational background includes a major in psychology and sociology from Yonsei University, in Seoul, South Korea, a master’s degree in school psychology and a doctoral degree in combined school-clinical child psychology from Pace University in New York. Before returning to school for advanced degrees, I worked internationally in banking for years and hold another master’s degree from the George Washington University, bringing a wealth of experiences and perspectives. I have trained and worked with adolescent and adult patients/clients in a variety of settings, including community mental health clinics, inpatient/outpatient hospitals, schools, and private practice, providing individual and group therapy and psychological evaluation for individuals across the lifespan. As a bilingual psychologist, I work in both English and Korean and have conversational fluency in Japanese.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
