Dr. Randy Nolte
PSYCHOLOGIST, FOUNDER &
DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL TRAINING
My name is Dr. Randy Nolte. After over a decade in private practice, I established The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy to enhance the reach and quality of care through the mentoring of early-career psychologists.
As Clinical Director, I am deeply involved in overseeing patient care and advancing the professional and clinical development of the team through personalized and group supervision, as well as weekly training sessions. My approach integrates the work of psychodynamic psychologists, such as Freud and Klein, and philosophers like Lacan with modern research findings from the fields of psychology and medicine. I take a holistic approach focusing on understanding the purpose behind each symptom, thought, and behavior. My goal is to empower my clients by uncovering and addressing underlying needs in healthier ways, thereby increasing their control over their lives.

Our Origin Story
Dr. Randy Nolte was a successful solo private practice clinician in NYC for many years until he envisioned something more impactful and far-reaching. He had the idea of creating a training institute (i.e., a postdoctoral fellowship position) that produces high-quality psychodynamic psychologists in the private practice sector.
To achieve this, he crafted and curated a curriculum consisting of empirically validated one-on-one supervisory techniques and in-house training on a variety of clinical topics and modalities. The vision was to advance the postdoctoral fellows’ knowledge base, translating to unrivaled high-quality patient care.
The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy was born out of Dr. Nolte’s desire to help others and his innate enthusiasm for teaching and sharing the knowledge he acquired in his formal education and 15 years in private practice.
The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy is now a well-respected boutique psychotherapy practice comprised of highly motivated postdoctoral fellows who chose the path of obtaining an additional certification beyond their doctorate degrees (i.e., think of medical doctors who pursue fellowships at teaching hospitals for their specialization), to refine their clinical skills and gain knowledge of the private practice sector.
The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy in Chelsea ensures the highest quality control of services provided through an extensive and competitive hiring process, ongoing supervision, and training. We take strict measures to ensure an emphasis on each psychologist’s work/life balance. The combination of these efforts translates to highly customized and nuanced care for every individual or couple who seeks our care at CPP.
